Our Mission
Who we are
Our mission at Pearl’s Veterinary Surgery is to provide increased access to affordable, high-quality, surgical services to help aid in the prevention of pet suffering. We believe that the human-animal bond should be preserved for all families, including those who may be experiencing economic hardship or financial restrictions. We do not provide overnight care or general wellness services. By solely focusing on surgery, we can keep our prices affordable and improve the health and longevity of pets that may otherwise go untreated.
A name With A Story
Why “Pearl’s”?
In August of 2023, wildfires devastated the island of Maui, hitting the town of Lahaina the hardest. After all was said and done roughly 3,000 pets were reported missing or displaced and more than one hundred people lost their lives.
Maui Humane Society (MHS) jumped into action to help locate, reunite, and treat hundreds of injured animals, while calling on the community for assistance. With the support of his wife Jenny (a career shelter worker), Dr. Kasey Carter responded to the call, helping Maui Humane Society treat and care for Maui’s four-legged survivors.
While volunteering with MHS, one cat in particular (named Dreamsicle by her previous caretaker in Lahaina) found her way into Dr. Carter’s heart. Despite severe burns, multiple surgeries, and months of treatment, Dreamsicle persevered due to her resilient nature.
After spending some time with this special cat, Dr. Carter and Jenny made the decision to adopt her into their family.
Over time, ‘Dreamsicle’ slowly became ‘Pearl’, and Dr. Kasey and Jenny began the acclimation process with Pearl’s adopted family – two dogs named Frank and Kevin – and a cat-like rabbit named Roland.
As time went on in her new environment, Pearl’s confidence continued to grow. She is responsible for raising many foster kittens and thriving in her forever home. Pearl’s ability to survive is the direct result of a community’s love and determination to overcome devastation, and she is the inspiration behind the name “Pearl’s Veterinary Surgery”.
Dr. Carter and Jenny are forever grateful for their 30+ combined years of veterinary/animal welfare experience at Dumb Friends League in Denver and at Hawaiian Humane Society on Oahu. We salute animal welfare and veterinary medical professionals everywhere and the communities that rally around each other to keep families (including the furry members) safe, healthy, and in their homes.

Dentistry
All dentistry is performed under general anesthesia to ensure patient safety and quality of procedure. Dental radiographs are taken to look for tooth decay, bone loss, infections, and other ailments hidden beneath the gum line. An ultrasonic scaler is used to remove plaque and tartar buildup on the teeth, then the teeth are polished with a dental paste. Any teeth that are loose, broken, or diseased are removed and extraction sites are treated as needed.
So what can we do for you?

Posted on Brenda LTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Unbelievable service and friendliness. I’ve been to many veterinary places and the staff just went above and beyond anything I’ve ever seen or experienced. Highly recommend and would suggest this place to anyone. Their low prices initially caught me, but the genuine care and transparency will keep me as a client for anything surgery related. 6/5 stars.Posted on Nina JTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Our little pup was just spayed at Pearl’s Veterinary Surgery and they are great! They kept us informed on what was happening throughout the day and she is doing fine so far. Every staff member that we talked to, including the doctor, was so nice from the moment we went in until we left. They were open to any questions we had from the surgery to dog food. We appreciated their knowledge and kindness. I cannot recommend them enough for your fur babies.Posted on Rachael ITrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I just had my cat spayed here and I was beyond impressed! They were able to give us an appointment quickly and they were very affordable. The office was clean and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. My cat is recovering well and there were no post-op issues. Parking is a bit limited, but there is ample street parking in the area, so it's only a minor inconvenience and a small price to pay for exceptional service. We'll be back for sure!Posted on Vera YTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had every intention to bring my dog, Bella, to a vet to remove a fast growing growth on her flank. With a fixed income, my various medical conditions and serious impending need for house repairs, I was hoping for some kind of miracle. I spent hours, days and weeks reading the reviews of all the vets listed. I believe in reading the worst reviews because it had to reflect what people truly perceive as their experience. The horror stories on costs, how the people and pets were treated made it so difficult to decide where to go. When the growth broke open, it was time to choose where to go. Then as I was going through the list again, on a side bar I saw Ohohia Street and recognized it being nearby in the airport area. Found Pearl's Veterinary Surgery and gave them a call. Next day, I brought Bella in and the following day she had her surgery. That was my miracle and probably Bella would now agree. Dr Carter and his wife, Jenny, repeatedly reminded me that there was no judgement in delaying surgery and they were so welcoming, kind, funny and just glad Bella was there for them to help. The cost of the surgery and everything that goes with it was another miracle! I was so relieved to know that I didn't have to take out a loan. This place is so clean and the staff is so professional and they were so kind to Bella. Dr Carter kept me abreast as to what was happening before and after surgery and gave me a report. Dr Carter called again to see how Bella was doing. The medications were easy to follow and even cut in half when needed. Bella tolerated her cone well while we had bruises on our legs from her bumping into us.. Her allergies are back so I had to keep the cone on for a month now to keep her from biting where she could reach even with Benadryl given twice a day. She looks like a much happier dog. Been eating and getting round. You did save her life Dr Carter. For that I am so thankful for. Thank you, Jenny, and all the staff who helped Bella. You were all wonderful.Posted on KatieTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Our sweet foster girl turned our forever baby had a rough start and ended up having both enucleations done here. The staff went above and beyond to take care of her both times, and I felt like they truly cared and remembered her instead of recommending euthanasia that was said at a different facility. The best care on top of the best staff, can’t recommend or thank them enough as we love our little blind girl more than words. Stevie sends her love!! 🐾❤️Posted on Alex pTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Dr Carter and the team at pearls provided amazing services to my cat and I can't be more greatful. They showed to me they truly care about the animals that come through their doors and I couldn't be more impressed with their professionalism and attention to detail.Posted on Ken WTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We brought our little Mochi in for a dental cleaning and to check on a loose tooth. We appreciated how transparent Pearl Surgery was in their pricing. We felt confident that Mochi was in good hands. All of our questions were fully answered and we were able to look at the facility. It was very clean and everyone was so kind. We received pictures and text updates. Afterwords, we received a written report and a follow up call the next day. Mochi already seems back to her happy self. We cannot believe that she had dental surgery a few days ago. We highly recommend Pearl Veterinary surgery. Thank you Dr. Carter and Jenny and the rest of your team!Posted on CristinaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
