Our Mission
Who we are
Our mission at Pearl’s Veterinary Surgery is to provide increased access to affordable, high-quality, surgical services to help aid in the prevention of pet suffering. We believe that the human-animal bond should be preserved for all families, including those who may be experiencing economic hardship or financial restrictions. We do not provide overnight care or general wellness services. By solely focusing on surgery, we can keep our prices affordable and improve the health and longevity of pets that may otherwise go untreated.
A name With A Story
Why “Pearl’s”?
In August of 2023, wildfires devastated the island of Maui, hitting the town of Lahaina the hardest. After all was said and done roughly 3,000 pets were reported missing or displaced and more than one hundred people lost their lives.
Maui Humane Society (MHS) jumped into action to help locate, reunite, and treat hundreds of injured animals, while calling on the community for assistance. With the support of his wife Jenny (a career shelter worker), Dr. Kasey Carter responded to the call, helping Maui Humane Society treat and care for Maui’s four-legged survivors.
While volunteering with MHS, one cat in particular (named Dreamsicle by her previous caretaker in Lahaina) found her way into Dr. Carter’s heart. Despite severe burns, multiple surgeries, and months of treatment, Dreamsicle persevered due to her resilient nature.
After spending some time with this special cat, Dr. Carter and Jenny made the decision to adopt her into their family.
Over time, ‘Dreamsicle’ slowly became ‘Pearl’, and Dr. Kasey and Jenny began the acclimation process with Pearl’s adopted family – two dogs named Frank and Kevin – and a cat-like rabbit named Roland.
As time went on in her new environment, Pearl’s confidence continued to grow. She is responsible for raising many foster kittens and thriving in her forever home. Pearl’s ability to survive is the direct result of a community’s love and determination to overcome devastation, and she is the inspiration behind the name “Pearl’s Veterinary Surgery”.
Dr. Carter and Jenny are forever grateful for their 30+ combined years of veterinary/animal welfare experience at Dumb Friends League in Denver and at Hawaiian Humane Society on Oahu. We salute animal welfare and veterinary medical professionals everywhere and the communities that rally around each other to keep families (including the furry members) safe, healthy, and in their homes.

As we work on an outpatient basis, we do not offer overnight care or after-hours emergency visits. Should your pet require long-term hospitalization, we would refer you back to your regular veterinarian for continued care. Depending on the type of surgery performed, we may require a consultation or veterinarian referral prior to surgery. We do offer vaccines, bloodwork, and microchips at the time of surgery.

Dentistry
All dentistry is performed under general anesthesia to ensure patient safety and quality of procedure. Dental radiographs are taken to look for tooth decay, bone loss, infections, and other ailments hidden beneath the gum line. An ultrasonic scaler is used to remove plaque and tartar buildup on the teeth, then the teeth are polished with a dental paste. Any teeth that are loose, broken, or diseased are removed and extraction sites are treated as needed.
So what can we do for you?

I’m so grateful to Pearls for the compassion and care they showed me and Gabbana during such a stressful time. After being quoted nearly $7,000 by another vet, I felt overwhelmed, but Pearls provided incredible care at about a quarter of the cost without compromising quality and on such short notice. Gabbana is my best friend, and their kindness, reassurance, and genuine care meant the world to me. I’ll always be thankful for everything they did for us. 100% recommend!Posted on Google Lauriette PTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Service.was excellent they didn't ask for money up front. Signed papers online and dropped off my dog for surgery. They kept me informed thru out the day. I would definitely recommend this placePosted on Google Tully RTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. This clinic full of lovely human beings is what you hope you'd get from your vet (or even a doctor for a human, for that matter). Compassionate, competent, personalized care for your beloved animal, with a very clear goal in mind to help the pet owner by keeping costs low. These folks are in it for the right reasons - they care not only for the best outcome for your pet, but also for the best outcome for you. Our senior dog Darwin needed a toe removed and they could not have made life easier for us along the way - good communication, flexible and accommodating, and the procedure was smooth as well. Great advice at each step of the process and clearly *cared* both for us and for Darwin. Could not recommend highly enough - wish them the greatest success, both for everyone at the clinic, and for the community of pets and pet owners to which they've clearly committed themselves! In a world of ever-increasing corporate consolidation and profit-maxing, Pearl's Veterinary Surgery is a breath of fresh air.Posted on Google Lori OTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. This place is an absolute GEM!!!! The staff is very sweet, knowledgeable, and understanding. They truly care about your pet. My Loki girl (9yo boston terrier) had to have her eye removed. She's a nervous nelly, and they let me stay with her and keep her calm up until she was sedated and put under anesthesia, to prevent her from having a bad experience. They kept me updated on her procedure, and recovery, and always asked how I was doing!! I can't rave about this place enough!!!! 10/10Posted on Google Cm GTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My french bulldog just got neutered at Pearl's and I highly recommend their office. The Doctor and staff were extremely kind and caring towards my pet and genuinely care not only about them but the owner as well. They offer the convenience of Saturday appointments, they were able to schedule us right away, and they provided real time updates throughout the day. I hope we don't have any surgeries in the future, but if we do we are headed back to Pearl's. Thank you Pearl's!! You are all so wonderful!!Posted on Google Full pTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Such amazing service, treated my furbaby with such care and went the extra mile to make sure she was comfortable, and at affordable cost the staff were all so friendly and even inquired about the back story of my precious little family member showing how they are invested in every animal that comes through the doors I will definitely be recommending to anyone I know . Thanks to the staff for taking care of my little one . Philbroux and FencePosted on Google Crystal KTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The Doctors and all the staff were so welcoming and kind! Felt very family oriented! Went way past their closing time to make sure my baby was good after surgery. I truly appreciate the services you provide and how personal and down to earth you all are. Thank you! 🙏🏽Posted on Google Liz STrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. What a special place! We learned of PVS through a friend, and have had two of our rescue cats fixed here. Staff is friendly and professional. Price is extremely affordable. I was also impressed with the surgical notes which were so detailed and thorough.....nothing like I've ever received from any of my vet(s) in the last 30+ years. (we have had dogs and cats...) I recommend Pearl's to everyone, and am totally confident in doing so.
